Four amazingly talented eye doctors, Dr. Dhimiter Llambiri, Dr. Monica Tadros, Dr. Dana Stern and Dr. Leah Shanfeld, at Everyone Eyecare, with offices in New Braunfels, San Antonio, TX, and Levittown, New York, take care of the eyecare needs in these communities. Our doctors want to discuss comprehensive retinal imaging.

What Is Retinal Imaging?

Everyone Eyecare explains that retinal imaging is now available at its four office locations: New Braunfels, TX, San Antonio, TX, and Levittown, New York.

If you have had a complete eye examination, the doctor must have instilled eye drops to dilate the pupils so that all aspects of your eye can be seen. These drops enabled the doctor to see inside and behind the eye. The purpose of any eye exam is for the doctor to view the internal health of your eyes.

Optomap retinal imaging gives our doctors a better view of the back of your eyes with eye drops. The best thing is that it takes only minutes and has no side effects. Our doctor views,

  • The back surface of the eye
  • Retina
  • Macula
  • Optic nerve
  • Other eye structures

Retinal imaging is an amazing and helpful tool that can detect the following.

  • Diabetes-related macular edema and retinopathy
  • Eye cancer
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration, hole, pucker
  • Posterior uveitis
  • Retinal detachment
  • Retinal vein occlusion

Retinal imaging takes digital photos of the inner and back surfaces of your eyes, including color fundus pictures and optical coherence tomography.

Before this test, our doctor may ask you for consent. You will receive some eye drops to dilate your pupils because a wider pupil allows the doctor to get better pictures of the inner eye.

These dilation drops will make your vision blurry for a few hours. Due to your increased sensitivity to light, you may have to wear sunglasses when you leave our office.

This process is comfortable, quick, and safe, presenting no complications or risks. It simply involves taking pictures of your inner eye, and there are no side effects.

Our doctor may opt to use fluorescein angiography, which may take up to 30 minutes. There may be minor side effects, such as skin discoloration of faint yellow to dark yellow or orange on the skin, that goes away in a day. There are risks of minor adverse reactions such as hives, itching, dizziness, dry mouth, increased heart rate, metallic taste in your mouth, nausea, vomiting, or sneezing.
